Littering has always felt wrong to me, even as a kid in the 80's when littering was the cool thing to do. Throwing garbage (cigarette butts are included in this category) on the ground baffles me. It's unsanitary, unsafe and unsightly. Plus, who cleans it up? Those are our tax dollars hard at work and volunteers donating their time.
I pick up litter whenever I'm out walking in town or hiking on the trails. I've officially adopted two stretches of road in Delaware Water Gap where I live, but I keep the whole borough clean all year long!

I've been picking up litter for over five years now. Below are photos of litter I have picked up since beginning to photo document it about a year ago. Thanks to fellow litter patrol peeps on Instagram who have inspired me to pick up all year long and in all sorts of weather, not just on warm, sunshiney days. By following their accounts I also learned to use buckets instead of plastic garbage bags. Most of the photos are from Delaware Water Gap, Pennsylvania, streets and parts of the Appalachian Trail. I also clean up the Park & Ride, which is technically not Delaware Water Gap, but it's close enough, and anywhere else I might be where I see litter.
